Wolverines drop double OT thriller

ST. NICHOLAS — Mid Peninsula boys basketball came up on the wrong side of a double overtime game against Republic-Michigamme, falling 48-40 on Friday night.

The Wolverines were led by Bradley VanDamme with 21 points. VanDamme also added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Caleb Loftquist also posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the contest. “We played really well tonight,” Wolverines coach Carl Brunngraeber said. “We moved the ball better. Just made a few small mental errors that was the difference tonight.”

Wolverines senior Caleb Loftquist hit two free throws with no time left in regulation to force overtime. The Wolverines out rebounded the Hawks 35 to 27 but committed 17 turnovers to 11 for the Hawks.

The Wolverines return to action tonight with a boys and girls home doubleheader against Big Bay de Noc. The girls game tips at 6 p.m. and the boys game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
