Superior Central wins two over Rapid River

EBEN — The Superior Central Cougars generated plenty of offense here Friday, sweeping to 16-1 and 15-0 softball victories over the Rapid River Rockets.

Superior Central collected 10 hits in three innings in the opener and 14 through four frames in the nightcap.

Emma Rutter pitched all three innings in the first game, striking out seven and allowing two hits.

“They have a real good hitter,” said Cougars’ coach Richard Swajanen. “Their fourth hitter (Madi LaChance) is a good ballplayer. She makes good plays in the field. too. They still have all 13 of their kids. They’re hanging in there. Their defense has improved a little, and they were missing three players due to a track meet (Escanaba Relays).”

Rachael Johnson allowed no hits and fanned five through three frames in the second game. Sammy Johnson relieved in the fourth.

Alpena Community College recruit Shae Lampinen provided the Cougars with four hits an six RBIs. Charlotte Charlebois added three hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs.

Lampinen, however, twisted an ankle on her last hit.

“Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious,” said Swajanen. “She was down on the field a long time. She’s heck of a catcher and has heck of an arm. Shae and Charlotte drove the ball pretty good.”

The Cougars host Bark River-Harris for a twinbill Tuesday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
