Cougars sweep Forest Park
CRYSTAL FALLS — The Superior Cougars continued their winning ways here Wednesday, sweeping to 16-0 and 17-6 softball victories over the Forest Park Trojans.
“They’re really not that bad,” said Cougars’ coach Richard Swajanen. “They have potential. I think they’re going to be all right in a year or two.”
Sammy Johnson threw a one-hitter, struck out eight and walked three through the entire four innings.
The Cougars (12-2) collected nine hits in the opener, with Charlotte Charlebois and Riley and Rachael Johnson each hitting a double and single.
Superior Central had 11 hits in the nightcap, including a double and single and three RBIs by Stephanie Nordness. Sammy Johnson added a triple and single and three RBIs, and Rachel Johnson ripped two doubles and drove in three runs.
Rachel Johnson, who recorded five strikeouts, took the win in the second game, which was decided in five frames.
“They had a freshman who threw a pretty good game,” said Swajanen. “She threw hard.”
The Cougars, who played a twinbill at Norway Thursday, host the Trojans May 23.
