Jets stay ontop in final poll
ESCANABA — There was shuffling at the top in the final 11-player Upper Peninsula Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association football poll.
Marquette (7-2) replaced Menominee (5-4) at the top of the poll after a 17-14 win against Petoskey, with the Maroons — who fell to Kingsford 34-27 — dropping all the way down to honorable mention.
Westwood (8-1) — after a 32-14 win over Negaunee — followed Marquette closely in voting, taking second, and Kingsford (6-3) made it back on the poll in the third slot.
Negaunee (7-2) remained in fourth, despite earning a 10th place tie on the AP Michigan Prep Football Poll, as did Calumet in fifth (7-2).
North Central (9-0) finishes its run at the top — on the U.P. poll and the AP Eight-Player Poll — despite quarterback Luke Gorzinski and running back Alex Naser being out with injuries with a 42-0 win over Forest Park.
Lake Linden-Hubbell (7-2) moved up two spots into second, shifting last week’s lineup down a place.
Pickford (7-2) at third, Forest Park (7-2) and Munising (7-2) tied in fourth, and Rudyard (7-2) and Newberry (7-2) earned HM.
