Sentinels struggle at Mauston, Wis.

MAUSTON — The Marquette Sentinels opened the 2026 baseball season this past weekend in Mauston, Wis. The Sentinels lost all three games falling 21-9 to Hayward. Marquette also lost 11-10 to Aurora Catholic Central after leading 9-2 at one point in the contest and also were shut out 4-0 to Denmark.

The Sentinels best performance came in the second game as senior Desmond Gleason allowed four runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work.

The Sentinels got on the board early as Jacob Geller grounded out, scoring two runs. Jack Keough and Jameson Sandstrom each drew a walk to score a run and Wes Robinson had a two-run single to put the Sentinels up 6-0 after one inning.

Aurora Catholic Central turned the game in the seventh inning as they scored seven runs on zero hits to come from behind to get the win.

In the Sentinels game against Hayward, Robinson collected three hits in four at bats with three RBIs. Robinson singled in the second and fourth innings before hitting an RBI-triple in the fifth.

Hayward scored six runs on three hits in the second inning highlighted by RBI-singles by Parker Kirkland and Ryker Chipman. Hayward also added seven runs on two hits in the sixth inning.

Errors were the telling story as the Sentinels committed 24 errors in three games and walked 23 batters.

The Sentinels will be back in action Friday with a doubleheader at Traverse City Central.
