Eskymos sweep Flivvers

KINGSFORD — Bailey Barron collected 10 kills, and Katelyn Stalboerger added nine, leading the Escanaba Eskymos to a 3-0 volleyball triumph over Kingsford.

“It’s always a great match when these two teams meet, but Escanaba came ready and hungry,” said Esky coach Adam Lambert. “They always bring us the best back and forth matches. Our seniors really stepped up tonight. Bailey Barron and Abigail Rexford performed as good as I have ever seen. These two came to rock the house. Abigail showed body sacrificing diving digs and incredible hustle. B, as I call her, (Barron) was just on point with her serves, hitting and defense. What a performance.”

Grayson LaMarche finished with six kills. Rexford tallied 17 digs, and Barron had 10 in this Great Northern Conference match.

“Grayson continues to improve each and every game, and tonight was no exception,” said Lambert. “From kills to defense to blocks, it’s just amazing how much she learns who she is as a middle hitter every time she gets on the court. Mia Whitson was flawless on her jump serves and had great kills as an outside hitter tonight.”

Aleaha Lambert provided the Esky with 11 assists, and Mari Bink had nine.

“Mari continues to find new tools in her tool chest to bring to each match,” said coach Lambert. “Tonight, it was her aggressive serves. Katelyn Stalboerger never disappoints with any kills after kills and blocks after blocks. She’s also using her jump serve as a serious weapon against our opponents. Aleaha performed with her usual spot-on serves and always improving sets learning where each of her hitters wants with that perfect set. Couple of blocks and aggressive defense along with ever-improving setting, she is becoming someone to watch.”

The Eskymos host Gladstone Thursday.

Escanaba — Barron (two aces, 10 kills, 10 digs); Bink (two aces, one kill, nine assists); Stalboerger (nine kills); LaMarche (six kills); Lambert (one kill, 11 assists); Rexford (17 digs).
