Esky shuts out Marquette

MARQUETTE — The Escanaba Eskymos girls tennis earned an 8-0 shutout win over the Marquette Redmen Tuesday afternoon in Marquette.

“It was a complete showing from the team today,” said Escanaba coach Chris Ogren. “The team played extremely well from top to bottom. We had a good half-hour practice just before the meet, and the girls really brought those skills we worked on into the match.”

Ogen lauded the Eskymos’ doubles teams for their performances.

“Our doubles teams played the most sound doubles that I’ve seen them play all year today,” he said. “Gracie Wickham and Abby Hill were both serving very well today and were able to use the wind to their advantage. Lily Newhouse and Molly VanDamme did very well placing the ball today.

“Both 2 and 3 doubles were able to find out really tight second sets and finish some close matches.”

While he was unable to watch the singles action, Ogren noted that the scores reflected that the team showed up to play.

Escanaba hosts the Kingsford Flivvers Thursday.
