UPSHF banquet scheduled
HARRIS — The Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held Sunday, Aug. 15, at Island Resort & Casino in Harris.
The 2020 induction was called off last May due to the coronavirus epidemic and tentatively rescheduled for May 8. However, virus issues and various health department regulations still in effect prompted UPSHF officials to again delay the induction.
Now that vaccinations are being widely distributed and the pandemic seems to be slowing, it is expected issues that forced the previous postponements will be relaxed soon, such as limitations for indoor gatherings.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. (EDT). Until further information is provided, tickets will not be available, although those details are expected to be announced soon.
The 2020 inductee class includes John Barnes and Todd Dagenais of Escanaba, Jennifer (Kangas) Brody of L’Anse, William Mannisto of Houghton, Al Mitchell of Marquette, Jerry Racine of Ishpeming, Julie (Heldt) Wonders of Iron Mountain, the late Dewey Lane of Wakefield, the late Victor Turosky of Iron Mountain and the late Mickey Valesano of Wakefield.
