ESCANABA — The Second Annual John Vrancic mile run takes place Jan. 1 at 10 a.m. in Ludington Park. There is no entry fee. All runners are welcome.

Ferris State in OT

BIG RAPIDS — The Northern Michigan University Wildcats (2-2) beat the Ferris State Bulldogs (0-4) in an overtime thriller in Big Rapids.

A goal from Joseph Nardi won the game for the Cats 4:26 into overtime.

Ferris opened the game with three goals in the first period, but the Cats answered back with three of their own in the second. Vincent de Mey and Michael Van Unen scored during power plays. de May scored again with five minutes left in the period.

The Bulldogs still led after the second thanks to a Coale Norris goal.

AJ Vanderbeck scored two times, the first on a power play, in the third to put NMU ahead.

A shot from Ferris’ Jason Brancheau with 34-seconds left tied things up and forced OT.
