Wolverines top Cougars

ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula volleyball team started clicking just in time to prepare for the districts here Monday as it overpowered the Superior Central Cougars 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-12).

“I would say that we’re finally clicking together well as a team, and our team morale was really high tonight,” Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser said.

The Wolverines took control in the first set, but the Cougars bounced back in the second, fighting back to within four before Mid Pen sealed the set.

“We had a lot of strong net play by Allyson (Lancour) and Landry (Koski) tonight, which was a key factor,” Kayser said. “We had some big blocks and some big stops.”

The Wolverines rebounded in the third set, overpowering Superior Central 25-12.

“We are exactly where we want to be in the season,” Kayser said. “Our performances are getting better and better with every match we play rolling into districts, so we’re happy with that.

“It’s nice to see that all the girls had stats tonight. They all played their spots really well. Communication was great, and it was overall a great team effort.”

Mid Pen, which lost the JV match, hosts Rapid River Thursday.
