HARRIS — The Manistique Emeralds overcame an early deficit as they rallied for a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-7, 25-19) volleyball victory over the Bark River-Harris Broncos.

“I think we came out kind of slow, but we were able to turn that around a little in the second set and really turned it around in the third,” said Emeralds’ coach Amy Nixon. “We started communicating more and our passing improved. Our hitters had a good night at the net.”

Kayla Muth led the Emeralds with 16 kills and six blocks in the non-conference match. Alyssa Ecclesine and Ella Schuetter had seven kills each and Emma Jones tallied 27 assists.

“This is Kayla’s fourth year on varsity,” said Nixon. “She know what she’s doing. I’m happy we were able to spread it out.”

BR-H’s Tressa Ives hit five service aces, running her school-record career total to 100. Carley Varoni and Selena Britton had four apiece.

“I think our back row defense played a great match tonight,” said BR-H coach Jennifer Ives. “They read Manistique’s offense well and were able to adjust to it. When Mano got their middle attack going, our blockers had a hard time adjusting to it, but once they did we were able to put up some defense at the net.”

Tressa Ives also had eight kills and 14 digs. Britton finished with 12 digs. Allison Richer collected 10 digs and Varoni had 21 assists.

Manistique, which also won the jayvee match (25-12, 23-25, 15-12), hosts Gladstone for Dig Pink Night Thursday. BR-H travels to North Dickinson Tuesday.
