North Central girls fall to North Dickinson

FELCH — Sophomore Ashton Hord led all scorers with 23 points, while Briana Smith added 21, eight assists and five steals, as North Dickinson pulled away in the fourth quarter to go on to defeat North Central 78-48 in Skyline Central Conference girls basketball Monday night at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium.

The No. 5 U.P.S.S.A ranked Nordics, who improved to 15-2 on the season, visit conference foe Forest Park Thursday night.

“We came out tonight with the mind frame of driving to the basket and drawing fouls. It worked well, missing a minimal amount of free throws,” said Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson. “Ashton Hord shot very well in the first quarter, which kick-started us.”

Bree Arsenault led the Jets with 14 points, while Alex Neville and Chloe Webber each added 10 points, as they fell to 10-6 on the season.

“Briana picked up where Ashton left off in the second half. She also distributed the ball well all night,” Mattson said.

“We had an advantage inside with our size, and Hannah (Clark) and Skye (Ledzian) played well also.”

North Central, which won the JV game, will return to action Thursday night when it hosts Rapid River. On Saturday afternoon, the Jets host arch rival Carney-Nadeau in a makeup game from Feb. 10.
