NLY swimmers set best marks at invite

WESTON, Wis. — The Northern Lights YMCA set four team records and multiple personal-best swims last weekend in the Wausau Area Iceberg Invitational.

Esther Oswald placed fourth in the girls’ 15 and over 500-yard freestyle race in a team-record five minutes, 42.57 seconds. She also set team records in 200 freestyle (2:04.74) and 50 backstroke (28.83).

“Esther impresses me with her dedication and determination,” said NLY coach Scott Dykema. “I can’t believe how fast she has gotten this year. She was chosen as Swimmer of the Meet for our team and definitely earned it.”

Nate Lanaville added a team record in boys’ 100 freestyle at 52.56.

In boys’ 9-10, Jake Lanaville, Bobby Micheau and Peter Hook competed for the first time in the 500 freestyle relay.

“It was the highlight of the meet to watch these three nine-year-olds give it their all,” said Dykema. “It’s not often a team has such young swimmers wanting to compete in a distance event. I’m proud of these three for taking on that challenge.”

Those swimming personal-best times include Adrianna Getzloff, Mary Hook, Kelby Reese and Aubrey Elliot.

The NLY team travels to Manitowoc, Wis. this weekend.
