Jets soar to No. 3 in U.P. poll
ESCANABA — The North Central Jets moved up two spots from No. 5 to No. 3 in the Division 4 boys side of the latest U.P. basketball poll released by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Monday.
The Jets (12-4) were rewarded for a 55-43 win over North Dickinson and a come-from-behind 75-66 overtime victory over Norway last week.
Dollar Bay is still undefeated and the unanimous No. 1, followed by Pickford, North Central, Rudyard and Chassell. Carney-Nadeau received one vote.
Nearly everything remained the same in Division 1-3 as Escanaba (12-6) maintained its No. 4 spot. Iron Mountain is still unbeaten and the unanimous No. 1 and Munising remained No. 5. The only change occurred at No. 2 and 3, as Marquette moved past Negaunee after posting a 61-54 victory over the Miners Friday.
Very little movement occurred on the girls side as well. Menominee is still unbeaten and the unanimous No. 1, followed by Sault Ste. Marie, Westwood, Calumet and Negaunee. The Sault moved past Westwood after the Patriots dropped their second game of the season in a 43-33 home loss to Negaunee Friday.
St. Ignace is still the unanimous No. 1 in Division 4, followed by Ewen-Trout Creek and Baraga. North Dickinson moved past Pickford for the No. 4 spot after the Panthers dropped a 66-59 decision to Engadine Thursday.
Carney-Nadeau, which is riding a 14-game winning streak and plays the Nordics for the Skyline Central Conference title Thursday, received two votes for the first time this season.
