Broncos triumph over Trojans

CRYSTAL FALLS — Bark River-Harris pulled ahead in the second quarter and defeated Forest Park 53-46 in Skyline Central Conference boys’ basketball Friday.

“Their pressure got to us at times and forced some turnovers,” said Trojans coach Kurt Lehmann. “A tough second quarter got us behind and we could never recover.”

Keall Emmers led Forest Park with 18 points and Tommy Peltoma contributed 11.

The Broncos got 17 points from Nick Javurek.

“Nick really stepped up and had a ton of hustle points,” said BR-H coach Marc Zawacki. “He was 5-of-6 from the line and had a nice game tonight. We also got some real good minutes from Dylon Lippens. Eight of our 11 guys scored. We had a lot of balance and transition points.”

Forest Park led 14-11 after the first quarter. The Broncos, however, led 27-22 at halftime.

“Keall Emmers had a good night for us and Tommy Peltoma had a good night inside with keeping them off the glass and scoring inside,” Lehmann said.

The Broncos (8-9 overall, 7-8 SCC) held a 22-18 rebounding edge, hit 21-of-39 field goals and committed 10 turnovers. The Trojans (8-9 overall, 7-7 league) were 17-of-44 from the field.

“It was a good game,” said Zawacki. “I thought our kids played well. We had a nice second quarter and thought we had a little momentum at halftime. Switching our defense was probably the key. We were able to get everybody in. It’s always nice when you can do that.”
