Bay men to host

regional game

ESCANABA — For the second straight season, the Bay College men’s basketball team won the coin flip to determine who will be the top seed and get to host the Region 13 sub-region championship game Feb. 26.

The Norse split with Dakota County Technical College during the regular season, forcing a coin flip tiebreaker. DCTC will now host Gogebic Community College Feb. 22, with the winner visiting the Norse Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.

The Bay women’s team already clinched the top seed with a season sweep over Gogebic. The Norse will host the Samsons Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.

YMCA basketball

ESCANABA — The YMCA is excited to announce the addition of a second session for both Little Dunkers and Youth Basketball starting in March. The new session will offer league play for first- and second-graders and third through sixth.

There is also a chance that fifth- and sixth-grade players will be able to compete separate from third and fourth if enough players sign up. Practices will be held at the YMCA Monday through Thursday from 5 to 7 a.m. Each team will practice twice a week with a game each Sunday starting March 15.

“This second session of basketball will consist of six weeks of practices and four games during the season,” said Youth Sports Coordinator Boston Hood. “This new session of basketball came about because we saw the interest people took in it, so we decided that basketball should be extended to fit the demand for it. Our new program will include players ages 4 to 12 to cover a wider range of local youth.”

Registration for Little Dunkers and Youth Basketball is available at the YMCA, online at nlymca.com or by phone (789-0005). Fees are $25 for members and $50 for general public.
