Rockets speed past Cougars
EBEN — Kristin Goodacre scored 17 points, Natalie Belanger added 15 and the Rapid River Rockets cruised to a 53-29 road win over Superior Central Friday in a Skyline Central Conference girls basketball matchup.
The Rockets (4-3, 4-2 SC) led 16-1 at the end of the first quarter and 26-12 at the half.
“We had momentum from the get-go and tried some different looks as the game progressed,” Rockets’ coach Scott Goodacre said. “We had 28 rebounds, 12 assists and 14 steals as a team. Good team effort.”
Cecilia Pilon added nine points, while Mya Paulin chipped in six points and nine rebounds.
“(Mya) really stepped up tonight,” coach Goodacre said. “She played tough defense for us all night.”
Charlotte Charlebois led the Cougars (0-8, 0-5) with 13 points, while Emma Rutter added nine.
The Cougars, who won the jayvee game 54-30, host North Central next Friday. The Rockets visit Stephenson Monday.
