Nordics roll past Mid Pen once more

ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula girls basketball team is tired of seeing North Dickinson.

After suffering a 67-32 road defeat to the Nordics just eight days ago, the Nordics came into Mid Pen and did it again with a 66-30 victory Friday night.

The fifth-ranked Nordics led 22-9 after the first quarter and 39-17 at halftime of this Skyline Central Conference contest.

“They move without the ball unreal,” Mid Pen coach Phil Croasdell said. “They move the ball all over the place, and if they see a crease they find it and find the open girl.”

Mid Pen (6-3, 3-3 SC) hoped to turned its fortunes around in the second half but was outscored 17-3 in the third quarter.

“We had 17 turnovers, so their defense definitely gave us fits,” Croasdell said. “We only shot 12 for 46 from the field, and we’ve had really good shooting practices all season. We’re the best shooting team in practice. I don’t know if we’re wasting all our makes in practice or what.”

The Nordics (8-1, 6-0) shot 25 for 52 and outrebounded Mid Pen 28-25.

“Coach (Kirk) Mattson has them hitting on all cylinders,” Croasdell said. “Kudos to him and their team. They definitely have our number this year.”

Skye Ledzian led the Nordics with 21 points, while Ashton Hord added 19 and Hannah Clark chipped in 10. Briana Smith had nine.

Kennedy Englund led Mid Pen with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Wolverines, who won the JV game 46-42 in overtime, visit Bark River-Harris Tuesday.
