Former Eskymo honored

Brayden Stannard

ESCANABA — Bark River native and former Escanaba hockey player Brayden Stannard turned in a strong weekend performance for the Maryland Black Bears in the North American Hockey League, which earned him East Star of the Week honors.

Stannard, a 16-year-old University of Nebraska-Omaha commit, had four assists and one goal to help the Black Bears split a weekend series with the first-place New Jersey Titans.

Stannard notched an assist in a 4-3 shootout win Friday, then recorded a goal and three assists in an 8-6 loss Saturday. For the season, he is second on the team in scoring with 17 points in 19 games.

“Brayden had himself a very strong week in all facets of the game,” said Black Bears’ head coach Clint Mylymok. “He played hard in both games, and it was nice to see him get rewarded. He is a bright and talented young player who has been a consistent performer all year for us.”
