Emeralds clinch share of M-PC title

NEGAUNEE — The Manistique Emeralds earned at least a share of the Mid-Peninsula Conference volleyball title here Tuesday night in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-11) volleyball triumph over the Negaunee Miners.

Emilee McDaniel hit five service aces to go with 12 kills and three blocks for the Emeralds, who can clinch the title outright with a victory at Gladstone Oct. 24.

Lenna Smith added eight kills and Kayla Muth recorded five blocks. Madison Zellar hit seven aces and Erin LaBar had 20 assists.

“Kayla played real well at the net,” said Emeralds’ coach Amy Nixon. “I think we played very well. We served aggressively and I think Negaunee had some problems with that. Our defense dug a lot of balls and we were able to convert those into our offense. We made real good contact with the ball tonight.”

Manistique, which had 26 kills, hosts Gwinn Tuesday.

The Negaunee jayvees won 2-1 (25-11, 19-25, 25-17).
