Gauthier named to

All-America list

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Former Escanaba athlete Taylor Gauthier was one of 14 Detroit-Mercy softball players to be named to the All-America Scholar Athlete award list announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Oct. 2.

The award is for players who were submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2018-19 academic year. 55 student-athletes from six schools earned recognition.

Gauthier was a member of the 2018 state champion Esky softball team who is entering her sophomore year playing for Detroit-Mercy. The Titans are currently playing their fall exhibition schedule.

Esky sweeps Braves

ESCANABA — The Escanaba seventh and eighth-grade girls’ basketball teams each beat Gladstone here Monday.

The Esky seventh-graders won 53-23 behind 17 points from Grayson LaMarche, 11 from Katey Lamb and seven from Brook Miron. Tia Schone led Gladstone with nine.

In the eighth grade game, Escanaba won 63-28. The Eskymos were led by Keira Maki with 22 points and Saylor Henderson with 18. Montogomery Pepin led Gladstone with 12.

Escanaba plays at Negaunee Thursday and visits Gladstone Oct. 15.
