Black Bears end regular season with win over Ojibwe Charter

BRIMLEY — The Big Bay de Noc volleyball team ended its regular season with a bang here Thursday as the Black Bears overtook Ojibwe Charter 3-1 (25-19, 27-25, 24-26, 25-13) in a Northern Lights League contest.

“This was a fun match for us,” Black Bears’ coach Angie Paulson said. “We kept switching up our lineup and some of our younger players got a lot of playing time, and it was nice to see them play the game the way I know they can. Everyone hustled, we didn’t give up on the ball and we stayed positive and cheered each other on. That’s been one of our biggest obstacles this year.”

Meagan Yonker led the Black Bears with 22 digs, eight aces and eight assists; Katelyn DeKeyser added 23 digs, six kills, four assists and three aces; Piper Jones had nine kills, six assists, six digs, five aces and one block; and Alix Bleau chipped in with 11 digs and two aces.

“Meagan Yonker, Katelyn DeKeyser and Piper Jones had excellent games tonight,” Paulson said. “Meagan and Katelyn were the leaders in digs tonight. They hustled everywhere the ball went and didn’t give up on anything. Meagan and Piper both had some great kills as well. They both found the holes and utilized their tipping skills to get the points we needed.”

The Black Bears visit Brimley Saturday for the NLL tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
