KINGSFORD — Westwood prevailed as the top team at Friday’s Kingsford Invitational tennis tournament.

The Patriots, with an overall team score of 45 points, had six first place finishers. West Iron County was second with 32 points, followed by Escanaba, 27; Kingsford, 25; Menominee, 20; and Iron Mountain, 19.

Sweeping the four singles events for Westwood were Madi Koski, Tessa Leece, Jillian Koski and Jenna Walton. Westwood’s No. 1 doubles duo of Karlie Patron and Katelyn Antilla also took first place, as did the No. 4 team of Mallory Leece and Emily Nelson.

West Iron came through with victories by the No. 2 doubles team of Emily Nelson and Anna Malmquist and the No. 3 doubles team of Aurora Dahl and Madison Berutti.

The tournament featured two Mid-Peninsula Conference teams and four Great Northern conference squads. The weather while remaining dry, turned from sunny and cool to cloudy and overcast. Most of the tournament took place at the KHS tennis facility.

The No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches were held at Lodal Park tennis courts, while the No. 3 doubles and No. 4 doubles matches were held at the east side courts in Iron Mountain.
