pitching clinic

ESCANABA — The Bay College softball team is hosting a pitching clinic July 24-25 at the Norse softball field.

Norse pitching coach Lesley Delvaux, a Division 1 All-State pitcher at Escanaba in 2003 and 2004 and former Michigan State standout, will head the instruction. She will be joined by Norse players and coaching staff.

Interested participants ages 7-10 pitch July 24 and participants ages 11-17 pitch July 25. The sessions run from 4-7 p.m. each day.

Cost is $45 per participant and each pitcher must supply their own catcher. Each session is limited to 30 participants.

Terrace Bluff men

GLADSTONE — Zach Mark shot a 38 to lead the way at the Terrace Bluff Wednesday Night Men’s League. He was followed by John Kositzky and Jake Sinclair at 39.

NMU hockey to

host golf scramble

MARQUETTE — The hockey Wildcats at Northern Michigan University will host its NMU Hockey Friends and Family golf outing in September.

Using a four-plus-one format, the outing will be held using a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, on the Greywalls course at the Marquette Golf Club. Registration takes place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Entry fee is $350 per team and includes nine holes of golf with an NMU player, lunch on the course, two drink tickets and post-golf hors d’oeuvres.

The Larry (Fungo) Heiskanen Trophy will be awarded to the winners from the front and back nine holes, and a post-golf program will take place in the clubhouse.

Little League

tourney postponed

ESCANABA — Due to the forecasted hot and humid weather, the District 10 Little League baseball tournament for the Minor Boys’ All-Stars (age 9-10) has been postponed until Saturday.

Gladstone will face Iron Mountain at 10 a.m. EST, followed by Escanaba facing Kingsford at noon. The tournament will continue Sunday at 2 and the championship game is Monday at 6:30. If needed, the second championship game is Tuesday at 6:30.

Highland men hold

summer tournament

HYDE — The Highland Senior Men’s League recently held its annual mid-summer tournament, a two-man scramble for league members. Teams were flighted by combined handicaps.

The low net score in flight A — handicaps total less than 50 — was carded by Gary Brayak and Dewey Klein. They were followed by David Rood and Pinky DeCaire in second place and Don Anderson and Gerald Gronmark in third.

Flight B — handicaps total 50 or greater — was won by Bob Taylor and Mike Needham. Second place went to Steve Haluska and Rick Kennedy and third place went to Jerry Koski and Mike Hellberg.

Deluxe shoots ace

GLADSTONE — Steve Deluxe shot a hole-in-one on hole No. 11 at Terrace Bluff Wednesday, using a 6-iron off the gray tees. This is his second career hole-in-one, both on this same hole.

Eskymo Fan Club

ESCANABA — The next Eskymo Fan Club meeting is Monday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library.
