Elmer’s sweeps Oven King

GLADSTONE — Elmer’s County Market swept Oven King in a women’s softball fastpitch doubleheader here Monday. Elmer’s won a 19-18 thriller in the opener in extra innings and then had an easier 11-6 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Elmer’s took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Oven King responded with six runs to force extras.

In the top of the eighth, Jen Kirk led off for Elmer’s with a single and scored the winning run when Brenda Madden ripped a double.

Kirk and Madden led Elmer’s with three hits and a double each while Tasi Martinez and Taylor Trudeau also had three hits.

Lisa Simon and Patti Brayak led Oven King with two hits each, with Simon chalking up a double.

In game two, Oven King jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead but Elmer’s clawed back, taking a 5-4 lead after three innings.

Elmer’s widened its lead to 9-4 after four innings and added two insurance runs in the sixth. Kirk was 4 for 4 while Madden, Martinez, Erica Proehl and Chloe Farnham added two hits. Madden double twice.

Chelsey Gerou had two hits and a triple while Jessie Anderson also tripled for Oven King.
