Cubs blanked by Blues

MARQUETTE — John Jason fired a one-hitter here Wednesday night as the Marquette Blues blanked the Escanaba Cubs 14-0 in American Legion baseball.

“It didn’t go very well tonight to say the least,” Esky manager John Bintner said. “We had some tough luck really. An injury to our catcher with a DH in the game forced us to remove our starting pitcher after one inning.”

Zach Tyler took the loss for the Cubs and Jon Jason earned the complete game win for the Blues. Jason also drove home five runs with two singles and a double.

“After a great ball game Tuesday (at Menominee), we seemed to take a giant step backwards tonight with mental errors and mistakes. We gave Marquette extra opportunities, which they took advantage of,” Bintner said.

“We are hoping to bounce back and play some good baseball this weekend in Marinette (at the Firecracker tournament).”
