ESCANABA — Yurika Tanida, a native of Japan, was wrongly called an MSU graduate in a headline in Thursday’s edition of the Daily Press. She is currently attending Michigan State and will golf in this weekend’s Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass as part of the Symetra Tour.

Junior Cubs win

NIAGARA, Wis. — Casey Bray had two hits and drove in two runs, helping the Escanaba Junior Cubs post a 5-4 American Leigion baseball triumph over Niagara here Thursday.

Winning pitcher Jack McEwers and Chase Cloutier each added a hit and an RBI.

McEwers, who shared the mound duties with Trent Lawson and Bray, struck out five and walked one.

Esky (3-4) hosts Bark River in a doubleheader Monday.

Irish Oaks men

GLADSTONE — Kyle Marenger, Charlie Stafford, Tracy LaCourt, Mel Davis, Scott Kwarciany and Ron Schwalbach all shot a 37 at the Irish Oaks Men’s League Thursday. They were followed by Mark Weber and Mike Pilon 38, and Dave Howes and Fred Breitzman 39.
