Salo tosses no-hitter, Esky sweeps Redettes

MARQUETTE — Gabi Salo fired a no-hitter, struck out 12 and walked one as the Escanaba Eskymos blanked the Marquette Redettes 10-0 here Monday in the first game of a Great Northern Conference softball doubleheader.

The Eskymos also won the nightcap 15-1 in six frames.

Offensively, Salo had two hits and drove in three runs and Rylee Kuehl added two hits, including a home run in the opener.

“Gabi’s control was real good,” said Esky coach Gary Salo.

“That was a nice home run for Rylee. That was her first varsity home run and she was real excited about that. We hit the ball pretty well tonight. We ended up with a lot of hits and walks. We took advantage of some of the miscues they had.”

Freshman Emily Moore took the win in the second game, striking out three, walking none and allowing seven hits.

“Nicole Kamin went home sick and Emily came up from the jayvees and pitched well,” said coach Salo. “She had real good control. Marquette put the bat on the ball pretty good and we played solid defense behind her, which is absolutely helpful for a young pitcher. We also have a young defense and it was good for them to get tested.”

Lexi Chaillier collected three hits, including a home run, and Maddy Block had two hits.

The Eskymos finished with 14 hits and took advantage of nine walks.

Esky visits Gladstone for a twinbill today at 4:30.
