MARQUETTE — It was a frustrating day for the Rapid River Rockets here Wednesday as they dropped 3-1 and 8-7 softball decisions to the Marquette Redettes.
Rapid River led 7-3 after 6 1/2 innings of the second game before Marquette tied the contest with four runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored the game-winner in the eighth.
The Rockets left the bases loaded in the top of the eighth and stranded nine baserunners throughout the contest. They sent 39 hitters to the plate and collected eight hits.
“We had opportunities we did not capitalize on,” Rockets’ coach George Kanyuh said.
Natalie Belanger, who took the loss, struck out four, walked one and allowed six hits.
