Knights top Jets on Mike Maule day

NORWAY — Norway scored five runs in the sixth to win 5-3 on Mike Maule’s day.

The Knights (18-4-1) rallied in the fifth helped by a pair of North Central errors and a bases-loaded walk. Trey Doda, Trevor Anderson and Nolan Amundson had hits in the inning for the Knights.

The Knights’ field at Marion Park was dedicated to Maule, an assistant baseball coach for eight years with the Knights. He died unexpectedly last year. He was 64.

Maule played football at Ferris State University after graduating from North Central in 1972. He was an assistant coach with the Jets during their 1984 championship season.

Doda shut down the Jets in order in the seventh to seal the win.

Kody Hendricks started on the mound for North Central. Gannon Bray and Payton Thompson also pitched.

Hendricks gave up a run on two hits with five strikeouts in two innings. Bray gave up two hits with two strikeouts. Thompson struck out two across two innings. Doda struck out one.

North Central used five pitchers.

Carter Holle had two hits for the Jets including an RBI double in the third. Noah Gorzinski had a double.

Norway faces Stephenson in the Division 4 District 98 semifinals at 10 a.m. EDT Friday. Bark River-Harris faced North Central in the other semifinal at 1 p.m. The district championship game is at 4:30 p.m.
