Elmer’s sweeps
RAPID RIVER — The bats were hot for Elmer’s County Market here Thursday as it beat IMS 15-5 in the first game of a season-opening doubleheader in the Women’s Slowpitch Softball League.
Elmer’s also hung on the take the second game 19-15.
The winners collected 28 hits, including eight extra-base hits in the opener. Bridget Becker ripped three doubles. Jen Kirk also had three hits, including a double and Chloe Farnhour added two hits. Taylor Husbye tripled for IMS.
Elmer’s led 15-7 going into the sixth inning of the nightcap before IMS scored eight times to pull within a run.
Tasi Martinez extended the lead in the seventh with a three-run homer to center.
Martinez finished with two home runs and Becker went 5-for-5. Brenda Madden and Anne Okonek added four hits apiece. Okonek had a triple and a double and Lauren Parrett had a triple among three hits.
Jen Savard collected three hits, including a triple for IMS. Jackie Skradski also had three hits and Sue Savard had two.
The teams combined for 50 hits, including 14 for extra bases.
