Cougars sweep Broncos

EBEN — The Superior Central baseball team swept the Bark River-Harris Broncos here Friday.

In the opener, the Cougars finished off the Broncos 5-3.

Bark River led 3-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. After a couple errors put two on for Superior Central, Eli Werner singled to score one and tie it at three. Lucas Kanerva then doubled to add another, and Werner scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Cougars a 5-3 lead and seal the game.

Clayton Smith earned the win for the Cougars over 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, three runs and six walks while striking out eight. Kanerva finished with two RBIs and one hit, and Smith, Werner and Kyle Frusti all finished with one RBI.

Jackson Bower took the loss for the Broncos, fanning four while allowing eight hits and five runs (two earned). Javurek notched their sole RBI with one hit, and Aidan Johnson and Johnnie Robinette both added one hit.

The Cougars shut out BR-H 5-0 in the opener.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third, when Zach Englund scored on a passed ball to give Superior Central its first run. A few batters later, Jesse Duran singled to score Frusti and Werner to increase the lead to 3-0. The Cougars tacked on two more in the fourth.

Englund earned the win over six innings. He punched out eight and allowed one hit and one walk. Duran finished with two RBIs and one hit, while Kanerva and Smith notched an RBI. Werner went 3 for 3.

Javurek took the loss over five innings, allowing nine hits, five runs (four earned) and three walks while striking out three. Max Hall collected BR-H’s only hit.

BR-H hosts Superior Central in another twinbill Tuesday.
