Broncos sweep Stephenson

HARRIS — Dominant pitching and timely hitting led the Bark River-Harris baseball team to a sweep of Stephenson here Friday night in Skyline Central Conference action.

The Broncos won the opener 13-3 in four innings.

Jackson Bower pitched the full game, surrendering three runs on four hits while walking just one and striking out six. Nick Javurek was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, a walk and three stolen bases. Aidan Johnson was 1 for 3 with a walk, two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases, and Johnnie Robinette was 2 for 3 with a run and four RBIs.

BR-H (6-3) also took the nightcap 10-1.

Javurek pitched five innings, giving up just one run on hit while walking one and fanning three. Travis Mack pitched the final inning, walking and punching out one. Javurek was also 3 for 4 with two runs, three RBIs and a stolen base, and Johnson was 2 for 3 with a run and a RBI. Max Hall was 1 for 3 with three runs and a RBI, while Robinette was 2 for 3 with a stolen base and four RBIs to finish with eight on the night.

“He (Robinette) had a couple real huge hits with a whole bunch of runners on. He was pretty clutch at the plate for us today. That’s as well as he’s hit the ball all year,” BR-H coach Al Botwright said. “It’s nice to see him snap out of his slump. He hasn’t been hitting as well as he’d like to. He was a little more patient tonight and let the game come to him, and he was rewarded with big hits in big moments.”

Botwright was extremely happy with the pitching.

“Once again, we got phenomenal pitching. Jack just did what he’s been doing for us all year. He’s definitively the ace on the mound for us — there’s not much doubt about that. He had pinpoint control, changed his speeds and worked his curve ball very effectively,” Botwright said.

“Javurek only gave up a hit and a walk across five innings. If you get two outings like that from your starting pitchers, you’re going to be in good shape or at least be competitive. One of the things we try to emphasize as a team is you have to be able to throw strikes. We’ve been doing a good job of that and hopefully it continues.”

The Broncos visit North Central for a twinbill Monday.
