BR-H sweeps Mustangs

BARK RIVER — The Bark River-Harris Broncos made short work of Munising here Tuesday in 15-0 and 16-1 softball victories over the Mustangs.

Eden Oswald fired a one-hitter and struck out 8 of 15 hitters in the opener, which ended in four innings.

She also collected three hits and drove in five runs. Riley Arndt and Alexis Berg had two RBIs apiece for the Broncos (18-4), who finished with 15 hits.

BR-H needed just three frames to secure the nightcap.

Esther Oswald allowed four hits. Five of the Broncos’ batters had two hits and Eden Oswald had two RBIs.

“They do have a good secondary pitcher, which was nice,” said BR-H coach Jen Goodrich. “We struggle with slower pitchers, but this one had enough speed where we could hit the ball and make some solid contact. Both pitchers threw strikes. Our goal is to be over the 50 percent strike rate. Both of our girls had that tonight, which is nice. We didn’t have any defensive errors, which helped. We didn’t get a lot of defensive action, but when we did we didn’t mess up, which made the game go a lot faster.”

The Broncos host Superior Central in a doubleheader Saturday with an opportunity to set a new program record for wins in a season with a sweep. Their current record is 19.
