Junior golf lessons

ESCANABA — The Delta County Junior Golf Association is offering free lessons for ages 9 and up in conjunction with its summer tournament series. The lessons are Wednesday through Friday, June 19-28 at the Terrace Bluff Golf Course.

Students will learn the basic fundamentals of golf. Stance grip, alignment posture, aim, balance, and proper swing techniques will be taught, as well as basic golf course rules and etiquette. A new bonus this year is two weeks of free instruction for the kids. Registration forms are being made now.

Listed below are lesson and tournament dates and times:

Lesson dates:

Wednesday — Friday, June 19-28

Age 9-10, 8:00-9:30 a.m., age 11-12, 10:00-11:30 a.m., age 13-14, 12:00-1:30 p.m., age 15+, 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Tournament dates:

July 2 — Irish Oaks Golf Course, July 11 — Gladstone Golf Club, July 15 — Terrace Bluff Golf Club, July 22 — Highland Golf Club, July 29 — Escanaba Country Club

banquet tickets

ESCANABA — April 29 is the deadline to acquire tickets for the 48th annual Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet.

The induction banquet is May 11 at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris. A social begins at 5 p.m. (EDT) and the dinner and program start at 6 p.m.

Only tickets purchased or ordered by April 29 will be available to be picked up at the door. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

To purchase tickets — at $30 apiece — or order them by April 29, contact Dennis Grall (280-3277) or Dave Lahtinen (399-3753) in Escanaba.

Gladstone Indians

baseball registration

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Indians American Legion Baseball Program will hold player registration May 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71, 802 Delta Ave., in Gladstone.

Players and their parents need to attend this meeting if they are planning on playing this summer.

Players from 13 to 19 years old with birth dates from 2000-06 are eligible to play either Junior or Senior Legion Baseball.

Senior men’s league

ESCANABA — The senior men’s golf league at the Escanaba Country Club starts Friday. The group meets for coffee at 9 a.m. and golf starts at 10.
