Braves win two at Dome

MARQUETTE — The Gladstone softball team pulled out two wins here in the Superior Dome Saturday.

The first game against the Rudyard Bulldogs saw the Braves pull away late. The Bulldogs led 2-0 entering the fifth, but Gladstone’s Olivia Saari led off the inning with a triple that revitalized the team. The Braves (3-0) scored three times in the inning to take the lead and seal the game.

Andie Balenger got the win in relief over two innings with no hits and no runs allowed. Morgan Letteriello pitched the first four innings and struck out four. She allowed two runs and four hits. Jenna Tardiff, Taelor Zeise and Natalie Hansen all notched two hits.

The Braves ran away with a 23-1 victory in the second game against the Bonduel, Wis. Bears. The game was called after three innings.

Taylor Trudeau, Sydney Herioux and Zeise finished with three hits. Zeise and Hansen each collected a home run, and Tardiff and Leterriello notched two hits. Belanger pitched one inning and allowed one run and one hit. Regan Salo pitched two innings and allowed one hit.

“I’m really happy with the way they played,” Braves’ coach John Nevala said. “They did a great job all weekend. They were great in all aspects of the game and played great all-around. For the first weekend, they looked like they were already in mid-season form.”

Gladstone hosts Kingsford Thursday.
