Norse split a pair

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. — The Bay College softball team split a pair of games in the Region 13 Early Bird tournament here Friday.

The Norse beat Lake Region State 12-3 in the opener, then fell to Dawson Community College 10-2 in the second game.

The Norse led 3-2 before blowing things wide open with a seven-run fourth inning to pull away from Lake Region State. They then tacked on three runs in the fifth and the game was called.

Rhiley Hubert got the win on the mound, giving up just three hits and one run in four innings of work. She walked three and struck out one.

Richelle Vandeville, Maddy Griffin and Aubree Saunders all homered for the Norse. Jerrika McAlpine collected two hits, two RBIs and three runs.

Bay was tied with Dawson 1-1 before the Buccaneers erupted for six runs in the third. The Norse weren’t able to recover, fallings to the Bucs for the second straight day.

Lexi Winling took the loss, giving up six hits and seven runs in four innings. However, only two of runs were earned.

Emily Bruntjens led the Norse offensively, collecting two hits and scoring on an RBI single by Vandeville in the fifth. The game was called after the fifth.

The Norse (9-4) face Lake Region State again today at 1 p.m. in their finale of the Early Bird tournament in Rosemount.
