FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Justin Popelka scattered five hits through 8 1/3 innings here Thursday, leading Bay College to an 8-1 baseball victory over Earlham College jayvees.

Popelka, who came within two outs of a complete-game shutout, struck out 10 and walked one.

The Norse collected 11 hits, drew nine walks and stranded 13 baserunners.

Mark Zhang had two hits and three RBIs for the Norse. Ben Schwalbach also had two hits, including an RBI double.

In the second game, the Norse left 11 runners on base and settled for a 2-2 tie with the Etobicoke Rangers in a contest halted by darkness after eight innings.

Bay loaded the bases in the first and third but scored a run in each inning.

The Rangers answered with two runs in their half of the third.

Kyle Moir ended with a no-decision despite 12 strikeouts. He walked two and allowed six hits through eight frames.

The Norse (2-7-1) were to complete their Florida trip in a contest with the Western Connecticut jayvees this morning.

They resume in doubleheaders March 22-23 at Rock Valley College and a twinbill at Milwaukee Area Tech March 24.
