C-N girls win

STEPHENSON — The Carney-Nadeau girls picked up the pace slightly in the second half here Monday night, surging to a 56-40 basketball triumph over the Stephenson Eagles.

Stephenson led 23-22 at halftime, but the Wolves led 36-26 after the third quarter of the Skyline Central Conference match-up.

“They were playing a 2-3 zone on us, then we put basically a two-guard front and somebody in the post,” said C-N coach Kris Blahnik. “We were able to get open shots from the corner and it kind of freed things up for us inside.”

Layla Blahnik-Thoune led the Wolves (9-3 overall and SCC) with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tessa Wagner added 10 points and 10 boards. Kristin Charlier also scored 10 points.

Autumn Rasner hit 15 points and Emily Johnson added 11 for the Eagles (4-8 overall, 3-6 league).

“We were able to get more shots from our guards than we’ve been getting,” said Blahnik. “This was probably our best overall game this season. Everytime we made an adjustment, the girls followed through with it.”

C-N, which also won the jayvee game 40-30, visits Bark River-Harris Thursday.
