BR-H tips Bobcats

HARRIS — Gage DeGrave scored 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday night, helping the Bark River-Harris boys post a 61-56 basketball victory over the Florence Bobcats.

The Broncos led 42-40 after the third stanza of the non-conference contest.

“Gage carried us in the fourth quarter,” said BR-H coach Mark Zawacki. “He’s a kid who comes off the bench and plays hard and Nick Javurek and Carter Zawacki did a pretty good job on defense.”

Javurek had 12 points and Carter Zawacki had nine points, seven steals and four assists.

Kaden Schuls hit 20 points, Riley Hixon scored 13 and Evan Beaster had 12 for the Bobcats, who trailed 18-4 after the opening frame.

The Broncos (2-1) hit just 4-of-12 free throws and committed 25 turnovers.

“We came out real hot, then we got sloppy in the second quarter and let them back in the game,” said coach Zawacki.

“We need to clean up our turnovers and do better at the free throw line. If we can do that, we’ll be right where we want to be. The kids are very unselfish. We had 15 assists as a team which is pretty good. We shared the ball well.”

BR-H, which also won the jayvee game 54-36, hosts Mid Peninsula Thursday. Florence (1-2) hosts Wabeno-Laona Thursday.
