BR-H girls completely belt Rockets

HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris Broncos had enough points in the first quarter here Friday night to take the rest of the night off. However, they kept playing and trounced Rapid River 66-19 in the Skyline Central girls basketball game.

The Broncos had a 32-7 first quarter lead and never let the Rockets reach double digits in any stanza. BR-H led 48-9 at halftime.

“We came out flat and you can’t be flat against anybody in our conference,” said Rapid River coach Tony Perino.

“In the first half we put them at the line too many times. We settled down in the second half but the damage was already done. It was one of the most physical games I have seen.”

Claire VanGinhoven matched Rapid River’s point total with 19 points to pace the Rockets. Cassidi Stannard added 15 points and Lauryn Bloniarz had 11 points. The Broncos (3-0 overall, 2-0 Skyline Central) hit 22-of-69 field goals. They resume action Tuesday at Mid Peninsula.

Rapid River (1-2 both ways) host Superior Central Jan. 4. The Rockets hit 6-of-32 field goals and had 28 turnovers and just 16 rebounds.
