Bay Men lose back-and-forth nail-biter to Mid-Michigan

PORT HURON — The Bay College men faltered down the stretch Friday, dropping a 69-68 basketball decision to Mid-Michigan Community College in the St. Clair County Classic.

Bay led 66-58 with less than two minutes left in the contest before Westin Myles drained a 3-point shot to pulled the Harrison-based team within 66-61.

A dunk by Kobi Barnes gave the Norse a 68-61 cushion with 1:25 left to play.

MId-Michigan finished the game with an 8-0 run, taking the lead with five seconds remaining.

The Norse (6-3), which had won six straight, still had one more chance. Ryan Robinette, however, missed a 3-point jump shot at the buzzer.

Bay, which trailed 35-27 at halftime, led by as much as 64-53 following a trifecta by Robinette with 4:46 left in the game.

Tyler Willette collected 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Norse. Robinette, who drained six trifectas, also scored 20 points and Alfonzo Fields added 14 points.

Myles finished with 18 points for Mid-Michigan (4-2), which led by 11 with 20 seconds left in the first half. Rutherford added 14 points and Cooper and Colin Carter had 13 apiece.

Bay held a 44-35 rebounding advantage and hit 26-of-77 field goals and just 8-of-23 free throws. Mid-Michigan was 27-of-69 from the field and 10-of-17 from the line. Both teams committed 13 turnovers.

The Norse face host St. Clair Community College today at 5.
