Third-set letdown foils Mid Pen

ST. NICHOLAS — A third-set letdown hurt Mid Peninsula’s chances in a 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 25-9, 29-27) volleyball loss to the Munising Mustangs.

“Their first server went on a long run and we dug ourselves in too deep a hole in the third set,” said Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser. “Our hits weren’t going in and we just fell apart. The girls got everything going in the fourth set. They played real hard and we had very few service errors. They showed a lot of character by bouncing back in the fourth set.”

Kennedy Englund led the Wolverines with eight service aces, 11 kills, two blocks and 14 digs. Dawn Hedberg added 10 kills. Daisy Englund recorded 17 assists and Elli Paulsen had 17 digs.

“Kennedy was very strong on offense,” said Kayser. “She was all over the floor and Elli had some great passes for us.”

Mid Pen, which dropped the jayvee match (25-23, 25-23), hosts North Central Sept. 18.

The summary:

Mid Peninsula — K. Englund (eight aces, 11 kills, two blocks, one assist, 14 digs); Croasdell (two aces, four kills, one assist, seven digs); Hedberg (one ace, 10 kills); Koski (two kills, two blocks, six digs); Lancour (two kills, four digs); D. Englund (17 assists, one dig); Paulsen (17 digs).
