Spike Surprise – Gladstone upsets potent Marquette on road
MARQUETTE — The Gladstone Braves pulled out an impressive marathon victory here Monday night, upending the Marquette Redettes 3-2 in Great Northern Conference volleyball.
The Braves overame 27-25 and 25-20 losses to start the match, taking the victory by taking the final three sets 27-25, 25-23, 16-14.
“Gladstone came on and played a great match,” MSHS coach Mike Morgan said. “They were able to play toe-to-toe with us, and in the end, they were the team to make the fewest mistakes.
“We had too many unforced errors and most all of those come from focus. We will be back in the gym the balance of the week working on that.
“The mental side of the game is my responsibility as the coach and I need to work on preparing the girls better for tough matches like this.”
Seiler Hruska led Marquette with 24 kills and 20 digs, while teammate Maiya King had 42 assists, Aspen Michelin and Madison Carter each had five service aces and Delaney Sall six total blocks.
“I would also note a great effort by Madison Pancheri filling in at libero,” Morgan said.
“We had both of our regular liberos out … and Mandy did a great job stepping up.”
Details on Gladstone’s players were not available.
