Rockets tip Big Bay spikers

GARDEN CORNERS — The Rapid River Rockets held off a couple of possible momentum turning stretches here Thursday to sweep Big Bay de Noc 3-0 in girls volleyball.

The Rockets won 25-19, 25-9, 25-13. “We had some difficulty communicating tonight,” said Big Bay coach Angie Paulson. “That was our biggest crutch.”

The Black Bears fell behind 23-11 in the first set, then rallied to make it interesting. In the second set, Rylie Lawrence had eight consecutive service points “and I hoped that would keep us going, but we just couldn’t execute,” said Paulson.

“After that we had a hard time keeping our energy up. We had the lead in the second set but as soon as we lost it, we couldn’t pull ahead.”
