Braves drop tennis opener

MARQUETTE — A Delta County team ran up against the same buzz saw Thursday in a girls tennis season opener as another Delta County team encountered a day earlier.

Marquette whipped Gladstone 8-0, the same outcome as the Redettes achieved in their opener Wednesday against Escanaba. Seven of the eight matches required just two sets for Marquette to persevere, with Gladstone winning one set at No.1 doubles.

No. 3 – Kennedy Tate, M, def. Kylie Williams, 6-2, 6-3.

No. 4 – Ryleight Jackson, M, def. Abby Rouleau, 6-1, 6-1.


No. 1 -Ashlee Tripp-Sydney Kivi, M, def. Sydney Herioux-Taylor Trudeau, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

No. 2 – Carly Sendstrom-Natalie Robins, M, def. Olivia Saari-Marnnea LaFave, 6-0, 6-3.

No. 3 – Campbell Kallio-Breanne Sandstrom, M, def. Jacinda Lippens-Emma DeLaire, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 4 – Keeleight Talbuka-Sydney McCarthy, M, def. Emily Marenger-Kate Matthews, 6-4, 6-4.
