Kingsford downs Escanaba 5-3 in prep hockey

WELLS — Five players scored for the Kingsford Flivvers Tuesday night as they handed the Escanaba Eskymos a 5-3 hockey loss at the Hannahville Ice & Turf Complex.

Kingsford grabbed a 4-1 lead early in the third period, but goals by Gavin Schwalbach and Garth Wickham drew the Eskymos within 4-3 with four minutes, 38 seconds left the play,

The Flivvers responded just 11 seconds later in their season-opener as Daunte Forstrom scored from the doorstep.

Kingsford outshot the Eskymos 13-4 in the third frame and finished with a 31-25 shots on goal advantage.

Esky junior Brodie Goddard had 26 saves and Kingsford sophomore Trevor Anderson stopped 22 shots.

Wickham finished with two goals for Esky (0-3), which travels to Marquette Tuesday. Kingsford visits L’Anse Tuesday.
