EDITOR: In 1967 over the most heavily defended airspace in the world, antiaircraft fire hit John McCain’s A-4E Skyhawk. Ejection broke both of his arms and a leg. Miles behind enemy lines he was imprisoned and tortured. A year after McCain was shot down his father was promoted to a senior position in the US Navy. The Vietnamese offered to free McCain. Concerned the enemy would use his release to torment other POWs, McCain refused the offer. He would not accept release until all POWs were released. EDITOR: After reading the 80 page Board of Canvassers Handbook, I was reminded of an old ad campaign, “It’s so easy, even a Caveman [Yooper] can do it.” On page 18 of the handbook, it states “the Boards exist to check the mathematical consistency of election records.” It has always been about the numbers. Three contests, three sets of candidates, three jurisdictions, three sets of voters and three sets of identical odds. EDITOR: Understandably and with good reason, getting anything done in government takes time. Due diligence is important. However, the citizen commissions (and more, but let’s start small) meant to guide city council fall short. Take the planning commission, for example. On their agendas for months has been form-based code (FBC). People have spoken in support of it, including Ed Legault of the Economic Development Authority.
