Baskets on Ludington Street

EDITOR:

I was on Ludington Street today and noticed that there are hanging baskets with flowers, many small trees planted on each block and then on many corners there are giant pots to hold flowers. I can’t even begin to imagine how much each pot cost let alone the cost to fill those pots with potting soil and flowers. I was under the impression the City of Escanaba was hurting for funds and will increase our taxes and wastewater price. The city will have to pay a city employee to water all those trees and flowers and then there is the cost of the wastewater. Where is that money coming from? I appreciate that the city wants downtown Escanaba to look nice for our visitors but come on, there has to be a limit on what the city can afford to spend. Were the giant pots really necessary when we already have hanging baskets and trees? Just wondering.
