Bay’s philosophy has changed

EDITOR:

Noble was the word I used to associate with the philosophy connected to the funding and running of Bay College, meaning a noble, affordable start on a college journey while living and working locally, or wisely acquiring a degree or trade to improve one’s income or job status. I’m thankful for the excellent SPN program I was able to take, but I now feel that Bay’s philosophy has changed as voters soon will be asked if they are “in favor of increasing the limitation on the amount of taxes…. .1924 mills (would be restored) and a .7 mill increase would be added to the college’s millage funding. In a word, No, for 2 reasons;

1. As a person on a fixed income, I am in a fix. Seniors cannot afford this costly philosophical change.

2. When I read (in past articles) about the new sports programs, and their scholarships and the new accommodations being built, I thought, this doesn’t describe the humble but scholastically excellent first step college I know. Extra trappings that mimic larger universities these appearances are not only deceiving but costly! We would no longer have what Bay once stood for; a basic quality hometown junior college that gave students of all ages and incomes a jump start on their future. Quality with affordable contentment is still great gain.
